On March 13th. the Federal Communication Commission issued a ruling
re-designating the 31.0 to 31.3 GHz Band for use by LMDS (Local
Multi-Point Distribution Service) service providers. This 300 MHz of
spectrum will be auctioned off by the FCC in Two (2) segments. The
middle 150 MHz will be put together with an additional 1,000 MHz from
the 28/29 GHz area and will be auctioned off in one 1,150 MHz lump. The
other 150 MHz (75 MHz at each end of the 31 GHz band) will be auctioned
off separately. Licenses for each segment (1,150 MHz and 150 MHz) will
be awarded by the FCC in each of the 493 Basic Trading Areas (BTAs).
